Ngrongoro National Park The Ngorongoro Crater is often called ‘
Africa’s Eden’ and the ‘8th Natural Wonder of the World,’ a visit to the crater is a main drawcard for
tourists coming to Tanzania and a definite world-class attraction. Within the crater rim, large
herds of zebra and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn, the
endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on
dew-laden grass in the morning mist. Just outside the crater’s ridge, tall Masaai herd
their cattle and goats over green pastures through the highland slopes, living
alongside the wildlife as they have for centuries. Ngorongoro crater is
also the coldest of the 4 parks in northern Tanzania. The rim is at an
elevation of 2000m and in case you are camping there. I would advice
you to carry enough warm clothing. Ngorongoro is strategically
situated in between civilization and the great
Serengeti plains. If you are going to enjoy a scenic lunch under the trees next to the hippo pool beware of the
black kites which have the alarming habit of swooping down to try and steal your lunch. They are
even so bold as to try and take it right out of a persons mouth or an outstretched hand so
if you want to lunch in peace, stay inside your vehicle.
As for the price and amenities,
Ngorongoro competes with all of the top safari destinations. The Lodges and camps
receive top reviews and prices fall into most travelers budgets. For the views
and sights that tourists are treated to, there are not many better
locations to safari than in Ngorongoro . |
