Welcome to Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing DirectoryThe Roof of Africa. At 19,330 feet, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa and the
tallest freestanding mountain on earth. For over 100 years the mountain has attracted adventurers hoping to
reach its summit. The Mountain has become a major destination for mountaineers
and trekkers from around the world. Although positioned close to the Equator (330 km south), Mount
Kilimanjaro is famous as Africa's snow-capped mountain looming over the plains of the savannah.
One of the things that makes the climb so appealing is the fact that Kilimanjaro has five vegetation zones,
which range from the rural and cultivated lower slopes through the montane forest zone, the mid-altitude
heath and moorland, and the alpine zone which contains almost only lichen, to the summit, which is bare
of almost all plant life. Climbers walk through all of these habitats on their way to the top. No need
to have any sort of technical climbing ability for climbing a peak at high altitude. Any one can
climb Mount Kilimanjaro to see the actual fabled snows there if you are physically fit and
healthy and ready for physical exertion. Without having any kind of technical climbing,
it can take nearly 45-75 kilometers of walking irrespective of taking any route. There are six most
recomended routes to the summit - Mount Kilimanjaro Machame route, Mount Kilimanjaro
Marangu route, Mount Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route, Mount Kilimanjaro Rongai Route, Mount Kilimanjaro
Shira Route and Mount Kilimanjaro Umbwe route. Please click here to find your Mountain Kilimajaro
